" I am passionate about improving access to quality education in rural communities. The Millennium Fellowship excites me because it offers a platform to collaborate with like-minded peers and develop practical solutions that align with the UNAI principles and SDGs. Through this experience, I hope to sharpen my leadership skills and turn my vision of equitable education into a tangible impact. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Kel Chai Ich- Access to Higher Education

Kel Chai Ich, a nonprofit organization, was born out of the belief that every young woman deserves the opportunity to define success on her own terms. Kel Chai Ich translates to "Come, Have Tea" in Kyrgyz, aiming to create a space where they can speak up, gain confidence, share their dreams, and overcome barriers often left unacknowledged. This project seeks to address the systemic and cultural challenges that prevent young women in rural Kyrgyzstan from accessing higher education.

About the Millennium Fellow

Gulnazik Bakhramova is a current Social Impact Fellow at Columbia World Projects and a junior at Columbia University majoring in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations and Comparative Politics, and an academic interest in Post-Soviet Eastern Eurasian Studies. Originally from Kyrgyzstan, her commitment to educational equity is shaped by her own experience navigating educational challenges and by her time as a U.S. State Department exchange student in the Bay Area, California. Gulnazik co-founded Kel Chai Ich, a nonprofit that mentors young women from rural Kyrgyzstan, breaking educational barriers and helping women overcome societal and cultural challenges to pursue higher education through Educational Programs, Mentorship, and Site Visits.
