" Justice and compassion drive everything that I strive to do. With the Millennium Fellowship, I will be able to hone these qualities and share them with my community. I am eager to share my passion in human rights and inspire others to be justice-driven through the Fellowship. Additionally, I have the invaluable opportunity to embody progress towards the UNAI Principles and Sustainable Development Goals through this program. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: The Disability Justice Initiative

The Disability Justice Initiative serves the Intellectual and Developmental Disability community in the New York City area by creating inclusive spaces for learning, engagement, and advocacy. The project hosted six general body events, including educational teach-ins, book talks, film screenings, and guest speaker sessions. It registered 86 official volunteers on a national nonprofit registry, engaged over 300 individuals through its mailing list, and built an online community of 680 Instagram followers. The initiative also established a host-site partnership in New York City to work directly with buddies, individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and secured sponsorship from Best Buddies International to host a city-wide field day at Columbia University.

About the Millennium Fellow

Olivia Ribaudo is a Human Rights and Neuroscience student on the pre-law track at Columbia University in New York, NY, USA. Olivia's interest is in how justice can be brought to victims of crimes against humanity when their rights are violated in international conflicts. She believes the methods of restorative and transformative justice, used to mitigate several post-conflict environments throughout global history, deserve more attention and implementation on the community level. Olivia aims to spread awareness of the history and utility of such practices within her greater New York City community, leaving an impact on her surrounding institutions.
