Millennium Fellowship Project: Medical Humanities: Public Health High School Program

This project focuses on creating, optimizing, and fine-tuning a high school summer program centered on public health, aimed at engaging young students in understanding health issues and making a positive impact in their communities. Targeting high schoolers and their communities, the initiative reviewed results from previous cohorts to enhance relevance and effectiveness. During the Millennium Fellowship, I refined communication strategies, tailored program content, and secured support from public health professionals, ensuring that students gained meaningful knowledge and opportunities to contribute to public health initiatives.

About the Millennium Fellow

Valentina Allegra is a college junior studying Neuroscience & Behavior with a concentration in Public Health at Columbia University. Born and raised in Miami, Valentina, or Vale, as her friends call her, is the daughter of a Sicilian immigrant and a Dominican immigrant. As such, she has always been very interested in the health of migrants, especially those hailing from lower-income areas. Valentina hopes to be a pediatric neurologist and gain her MPH, and she is interested in conducting clinical and epidemiological research on the effects of anthropogenically released neurotoxins on pediatric cognitive development, especially in conflict-affected areas. In her free time, Valentina enjoys journaling, reading philosophy and literature, rock climbing, playing soccer, and exploring New York City with her friends.
