" I am driven by the belief that no one should have to fight their mental health battles in silence. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I hope to amplify my voice, connect with change-makers worldwide, and create safe spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued ; turning empathy into action and stigma into understanding. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: From Margin to Mainstream; Empowering Communities

From Margin to Mainstream: Empowering Communities:
Every great change begins with a single step, and for us, that step is women. Women are at the heart of families, the strength of communities, and yet their voices and health needs are too often pushed to the margins. Our project, From Margin to Mainstream, is about shifting that balance, bringing what has been overlooked into the Centre where it belongs.
We begin with the basics of dignity and well-being: menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and mental wellness. These are not small issues, they are the foundation on which confidence, opportunity, and empowerment are built. By creating awareness, opening safe spaces for dialogue, and encouraging preventive care, we plant seeds of change that ripple far beyond individuals.
From there, we move to Hunar (Education & Skills), where knowledge transforms into opportunity. Through digital literacy, vocational training, and entrepreneurship, we open doors for women and youth to shape their own futures with confidence and creativity.
Finally, we ground this journey in Iqtesaad (Financial Inclusion & Stability). Financial literacy, budgeting, and micro-investments provide the tools to turn skills into sustainable livelihoods. Paired with mental well-being and safe dialogue spaces, this pillar ensures empowerment is not just achieved but sustained.
Together, these three pillars: Sehat, Hunar, and Iqtesaad form the heartbeat of From Margin to Mainstream: Empowering Communities. Step by step, they lay the path from survival to strength, and from strength to shared prosperity.
Though our Fellowship journey focuses first on women and girls, our vision is larger. As these roots grow stronger, we will expand to include men, boys, and entire communities. Empowerment is not a destination but a cycle, one that flourishes when everyone is part of it.
Through the Millennium Fellowship, a global initiative of the United Nations Academic Impact and the Millennium Campus Network, our cohort has come together as one to pursue this vision. We believe that by starting where the need is greatest, we can create pathways that lead not just from margin to mainstream, but towards a future where every voice matters and every life thrives

About the Millennium Fellow

Jawairia Amir is a passionate psychology student in her final semester at COMSATS University, Islamabad. Born in Sargodha and raised in a small town in Gujranwala, she completed her early schooling locally before traveling to the city for her secondary and higher education. Her dedication to understanding the human mind has led her to internships in psychiatric and rehabilitation centers, as well as a leadership role as Lead Ambassador for The Project Suicide at her university. Fueled by a deep curiosity about the human mind and a desire to uncover the truths behind complex behaviors, Jawairia aspires to specialize in forensic psychology. Her goal is to combine psychological expertise with investigative work to aid justice, support victims, and enhance public safety. She envisions using her skills to prevent crime, reduce re-offending, and educate communities about mental health, ultimately working toward a society that is safer, fairer, and more understanding. This vision drives her determination to pursue advanced studies abroad and make a lasting contribution both in the courtroom and beyond.
