" “Service is the foundation of everything we all do in life. At a high school where service was central, I developed a deep love for positively impacting others. Now, as a Millennium Fellow, I have the opportunity to elevate that commitment and focus my service mindset into addressing real world challenges through collaborative projects." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Middle East Solidarity Project

The Middle East Solidarity Bridge Program is a partnership between St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Sisters of the Rosary Schools in Lebanon. The nonprofit initiative, "Adopt A Student | Save A Nation," began in 2020 in response to the harsh impact on students in Beirut after the COVID-19 pandemic, economic turmoil, and the well-known port explosion. These events contributed to a historic devaluation of the Lebanese currency and hyperinflation above 5,600%. Since its founding, the organization has raised many funds (exact figures are not shared with student leaders) to support and sustain educational access for students in Lebanon. As student leaders, our mission goes beyond financial aid. We strive to build lasting relationships and a genuine presence in the lives of those we support. Every other week, we wake early to adjust for the time difference, starting video calls at 7:15 a.m. These mornings bring new stories, genuine conversations, and unexpected connections. Whether discussing food, sports, or politics, I’m often challenged and inspired. Through these exchanges, we find shared values of resilience, friendship, and cultural pride, and in those moments, the thousands of miles between Cleveland and Beirut seem to disappear.
