" For me, curiosity, empathy, and hunger to do something impactful, while grounded in analytical thinking, guide my work and my vision for change. The Millennium Fellowship will strengthen my ability to design solutions that are both people-centered and impact-driven. Through this platform, I aim to transform communities, build solutions and drive sustainable change, aligning closely with the UNAI principles and SDGs, while learning from and contributing to a global network of leaders. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Akira

Project Akira help underprivileged women become financially independent and gain the skills to make a living on their own. This is the basic framework. Under this, we are helping them specifically learn sewing and then they make the most beautiful products like tote bags, embroidered diaries, intricately embroidered bags, pouches, raÄ·his and even bracelets. We live by the spirit of sustainability in two ways: first, by sourcing fabric waste from factories to make the products, and second, by ensuring that all sewing residue is repurposed. Our goal is to make our users empowered to the point where they can run their own business without external help (that's why we call them users, not beneficiaries). Why is this important? Because a lot of our users have endured domestic abuse, financial struggles, and gender inequality. You know, during our empathy mapping, the most heartbreaking thing was when we asked, "What are your dreams and ambitions" and most women had no answers- they just went blank, helpless. Their only dream was for their kids to do well in life. But when they started to earn, even a little, their spirits reignited, and that's the empowerment we saw through the entrepreneurial model we're building.
