Millennium Fellowship Project: Flemingos: The STEM club

Flemingos - The STEM Club
Flemingos - The STEM Club empowers high school students from underserved and climate-vulnerable communities by integrating STEM education, innovation, and career development to address local environmental challenges while building future-ready skills.
The Problem
-Educational Gaps: Limited exposure to emerging technologies like AI, robotics, and data science in underserved schools.
-Climate Vulnerability: Students witness environmental issues like floods, heatwaves, and pollution but lack tools to address them.
-Career Barriers: Minimal guidance or resources to pursue STEM higher education and professions.
Our Solution
Flemingos - The STEM Club bridges these gaps through a structured four-pillar approach:
-STEM Skill Development
Hands-on workshops in AI, coding, robotics, and environmental science.
Project-based learning focused on solving local climate issues (e.g., building flood-prediction models or air-quality monitors).
-Career Pathway Guidance
Personalized mentorship from STEM professionals.
University application support, internship placements, and industry exposure.
Innovation and Leadership
Students design and prototype solutions for community climate challenges.
Participation in national/international STEM competitions.
-Community Impact
Clubs initiate local sustainability projects (e.g., waste management, water conservation).
Students become “STEM ambassadors” in their communities.
-Key Activities
School-level STEM clubs with curated learning modules.
Innovationactivities themed around sustainability.
Virtual mentorship, and career counseling sessions.
-Impact
Short-term: Improved STEM literacy, confidence, and career awareness.
Long-term: A pipeline of STEM leaders driving climate resilience and equity.
