" I strive to bridge the gaps between gender, culture, and socioeconomic realities because I believe that true progress is only possible when every voice especially the most marginalized is heard and valued. I am driven to work for ASHA workers because they are the unsung pillars of community health. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I hope to amplify their voices, advocate for their rights, and create systemic change that honors their indispensable role in society. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Aasha

Project Aasha aims to explore the prevalence of work precarity and its mental health repercussions among ASHA workers- a cadre of over one million women who play a heroic role as community healthcare workers in India. In doing so, the project aims to amplify their voices, so that the concerned authorities can take actionable measures to overcome the plight of our these women frontline warriors. The project recognizes that the challenges faced by ASHA workers are compounded by intersectional factors: gendered expectations, caste hierarchies, societal barriers, and rural marginalization. By examining these interlocking systems of disadvantage, Project Aasha aims to provide a holistic understanding of structural vulnerabilities, advocating for inclusive policies and interventions that ensure their well-being and professional dignity and thereby, helping India achieve the goal of a truly Viksit Bharat 2047.
