UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT ANGEL UGOCHI CHUKWUEMEKA, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2025.
Ebonyi State University | Abakaliki, Nigeria | Advancing SDG 5, SDG 5 & UNAI 6

" My commitment to dismantling cycles of poverty and preventable disease for women and children drives me to pioneer community-centered health solutions. As a Millennium Fellow, I will strengthen my capacity to design intersectional interventions that simultaneously advance health equity, economic justice, and gender equality. This experience will transform my advocacy into scalable action—directly aligning with SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Health), and SDG 5 (Gender Equality)—while building partnerships to create self-sustaining change where it’s needed most. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Her Path to Power
In this part of the world where the HPP team finds ourselves, we have little to no control on how most male counterparts perceive and treat women. It is the part of the world where we still constantly have to deal with laymen who don't understand the essence of gender equality. Thus, Her Path to Power is a girl-centered initiative designed to equip middle to late-adolescent girls with knowledge about sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), as well as the skills and confidence they need to protect themselves, lead their peers, and advocate for gender equality and safety in their communities. The initiative will include mentorship programs, leadership development, self-defense and personal safety workshops, legal literacy sessions, and mechanisms for reporting violence. Our goal is to ensure that these girls come out into the world willing to thrive, fully self-aware that they are free to fly and alert on ways to defend themselves and their peers against gender-based violence.
About the Millennium Fellow
Angel Ugochi Chukwuemeka is a driven and compassionate third-year medical student from Nigeria, with a deep passion for empowering women and girls. Born and raised in a country where poverty and poor healthcare is the order of the day, Angel has always been inspired by the strength of the women who help other women in her community and beyond.
Her commitment to creating meaningful change is rooted in her belief that access to healthcare and education are fundamental rights that every woman and girl deserves. As a third year medical student and currently in her academic journey, she has actively engaged in initiatives aimed at improving health literacy, advocating for gender equity, and providing mentorship to young girls.
With her sights set on becoming a healthcare professional who fosters both healing and empowerment, Angel aspires to bridge the gap in healthcare and financial disparities and champion the rights of women globally. Her work is guided by a vision of a world where every woman has the tools and opportunities to thrive—physically, mentally, and socially.
