Millennium Fellowship Project: Her Path to Power
*Project name:* Her Path to Power
*Brief detail:*
In this part of the world where the HPP team finds itself, we have little to no control over how most male counterparts perceive and treat women.
It is the part of the world where we still constantly have to deal with laymen who don’t understand the essence of gender equality.
Thus, Her Path to Power is a girl-centered initiative designed to equip middle to late adolescent girls with knowledge about sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), as well as the skills and confidence they need to protect themselves, lead their peers, and advocate for gender equality and safety in their communities.
The initiative will include mentorship programs, leadership development, self-defense and personal safety workshops, legal literacy sessions, and mechanisms for reporting violence. Our goal is to ensure that these girls come out into the world ready to thrive, fully self-aware that they are free to fly and alert to ways of defending themselves and their peers against gender-based violence.
About the Millennium Fellow
MaryCynthia Nwafor, a young vibrant girl of African decent, born in Ebonyi State Nigeria, she is a medical student studying at Ebonyi State university, she had always dreamed of a time where female children would be considered enough, where the voice of girls abused could be heard and where an education for a firl child is not considered as a waste. This vision came from being exposed to an environment at an early age, where being a female is enough to become disadvantaged, where friends have lost their lives from harmful traditional practices like female genital mutilation. Due to this she developed an intreast in the field of medicine to helpfemales that can't assess good quality health care. She knew it wasn't enough and have joined an non profit organization Gynix Afrika to help persue this passion and improve herself.
