" Being environmentally conscious, collaborative, practical, and resilient fuels my thinking and work. Joining the Millennium Fellowship will further strengthen these qualities while allowing me to contribute meaningfully to environmental protection and inspire my peers to take action. I am excited to become a Fellow because it will help me grow more competent and well-rounded in all aspects of my journey. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: From Man to Mangrove
The project I want to work on, From Man to Mangrove, focuses on raising awareness about blue carbon and mangrove conservation. Bangladesh is home to the largest mangrove forest in the world, named the Sundarbans. Besides Mangroves, seagrasses and salt marshes store up to five times more carbon dioxide than tropical rainforests, making them vitally important for combating climate change. This stored carbon is called Blue Carbon. To spread awareness, I plan to host seminars at universities and schools, including my own university campus so that I and my teammates can educate students about blue carbon and why it matters. At the end of each session, attendees will take a survey to test their knowledge and share their opinions on mangrove conservation. Based on their responses, we will recruit passionate volunteers to join forces with NGOs like BRAC or WCS for hands-on mangrove restoration activities. This project intends to encourage youth to protect our coastal ecosystems and contribute to a more sustainable future by merging education with action. In simple terms, this project will start as an awareness campaign, which will then manifest itself in feasible solutions.
About the Millennium Fellow
Adri Das is a career-driven, practical, and perseverant economics student studying at East Delta University. She was born and raised in Chattogram, Bangladesh. From a young age, she has been deeply concerned about nature and often thought about the simplest initiatives she could take despite having limited resources. The first idea that came to her mind was planting trees, which grew into her passion for finding small yet impactful solutions for environmental and social challenges. Due to this, my project involves spreading awareness and planting trees.
