" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the opportunity to advocate for social justice and women's rights on a global platform, and to connect with the change makers who share my passion for creating meaningful impact. And also our group project to promote. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: From Man to Mangrove

My project, From Man to Mangrove, focuses on raising awareness about blue carbon and mangrove conservation. I’m from Bangladesh, home to the Sundarbans, the world’s largest mangrove forest. Mangroves, along with seagrasses, salt marshes, store up to five times more carbon dioxide than tropical rainforests, making them critical for fighting climate change. This stored carbon is called blue carbon. To spread awareness, I will host seminars at universities and schools, including my own campus, to educate students about blue carbon and why it matters. At the end of each session, attendees will take a survey to test their knowledge and share their opinions on mangrove conservation. Based on their responses, we will recruit passionate volunteers to join forces with NGOs like BRAC or WCS for hands-on mangrove restoration activities. By combining education with action, this project aims to inspire young people to protect our coastal ecosystems and contribute to a more sustainable future. This project will essentially start as an awareness campaign which will then manifest itself in actionable solutions.
