Millennium Fellowship Project: Anti FGM campaign in Narok County Kenya

I grew up in Narok county in Kenya. It was an eye opening experience to be able to see the world through the eyes of both modern and traditional lenses. Narok county is a cultural beacon in my country as it's populated by the maasai people and as amazing as their culture is, FGM is still prevalent to this day and age. Countless girls are thrown into early marriages and suffer the pain and anguish causes by it and it hurts to see so many girls suffer. As a young child my mother taught an all girls school and it changed my perspective on a lot. My project first seeks to educate and teach the community of the dangers of FGM. Through various chiefs barazas and multiple on site outreach programs I ain't to reach people at their homes, not just in schools. Change comes from meeting people where they are and for me it is important to do so. Providing basic information and also linking up girls with rescue centres that are around the county is also a priority. There are multiple rescue centres such as Tasaru rescue centre which helps and genuinely change the lives of these girls.
