" " For me, excitement stems from the curiosity to understand the potential - both of others and that of my own. As a strong believer in who you are matters less than what you do with your potential, this comes as a rare opportunity to experience and share diverse perspectives. Being a Millennium Fellow, provides a space to learn, to connect and to create a lasting impact" "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Shattering Stigma, Ending Period Poverty
Hey, so let me tell you about this project that i intend to execute in future. It’s focused on spreading awareness about an issue that is serious but not talked about enough, especially in rural areas of Pakistan- period poverty and the stigma that surrounds it. My project is about helping girls starting from as early as middle school by educating them on how to manage menstruation in a healthy and open way. This topic is considered taboo subject, so most young girls are not aware of what’s happening to them during periods and why they feel the way they do during that cycle. This impacts their daily life in a negative way. So firstly, my idea is to break that silence and that unnecessary standard that puts young girls in such a misery and suffering. So i want to start with local schools because i believe early awareness can save them the pain that their older generations faced, by giving them proper guidance on hygienic sanitary products and a healthy diet. Lastly I believe that this project can create a ripple effect that can have a positive lasting impact on future generations to come. So yeah, that’s my vision.
About the Millennium Fellow
Eman Rashid is a young undergraduate student of Public Administration, bold in nature and a competitive individual, who is constantly testing limits and refuses to abide by societal norms. Born and based in Pakistan and is currently studying in Fatima Jinnah Women University-City Campus. She has always stood out for being an outspoken person, a natural leader and unafraid to advocate for meaningful causes. She has always been vocal about her support for any oppressed and under-represented communities, which has driven her passion for social justice. With keen observation skills, Eman believes that a leader is not born, but rather shaped by their surroundings and choices they make. Despite limited opportunities to express her passion for social justice, she managed to make the most out of every chance, to grow and lead. Now with Millennium Fellowship Program, she is taking a significant step forward with an aim to create a meaningful change and evolve as an individual, further providing her own contribution in the development of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
