Millennium Fellowship Project: PROMOTING MENSTRUAL HEALTH BREAKING THE STIGMA

My project is primarily aimed at eliminating the stigma around menstruation and encouraging good menstrual hygiene amongst ladies. This project focuses on; (1) Normalising menstruation_ this can be done by educating young ladies and also the general public on the biology of menstruation I.e opening their minds to understand that menstruation is a natural occurrence in every woman which is not something to be ashamed of. It also aims at breaking menstrual taboos as many cultures and traditional has their negative views of menstruation which are mostly not in favour of ladies. This creates a stigma causing mental and emotional distress. (2) Empowerment through education..Educating young ladies and the general public on the importance of menstrual hygiene. Good menstrual hygiene is a very important aspect in women general health. We will be encouraging practices such as ;using the right sanitary product such as the ones that are absorbent, comfortable, sterile and without harsh chemicals. Encouraging ladies to change their sanitary products regularly to prevent leakage and infections. Encouraging ladies to wash hands before and after handling sanitary products and maintaining genital hygiene to prevent infections. This basically is my dream and passion.
