" For me, I see forest not just as trees but more about the people who live around them, the culture they carry, and the climate they protect. I have seen how sharing real stories can make people care in ways that numbers alone can’t. That is why the Millennium Fellowship excites me. I see it as a chance to learn, connect with other change makers, and use my voice to turn ideas into actions that actually make a difference for the Sustainable Development Goals. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Forestry, Skills and the Future We Want
Forestry, Skills and the Future We Want is a youth-led initiative that equips forestry students with essential green and digital skills needed to thrive in the modern sustainability space. The project challenges the traditional view that forestry is limited to fieldwork or tree planting by introducing students to creative skills such as graphic design, storytelling, photography, and web development.
Through workshops, mentorship, and storytelling, the project empowers students to combine innovation with environmental conservation, helping them discover new career pathways while promoting sustainability awareness.
About the Millennium Fellow
Salvation Akinyede is a passionate Nigerian forestry student and emerging environmental storyteller, committed to connecting people with the value of forests in their daily lives. As a nature advocate, she blends strong writing skills with compelling visuals to highlight the link between environmental conservation, community livelihoods, and climate solutions. She has led awareness campaigns, engaged in community-based forestry projects, and actively participated in global youth dialogues on nature and climate, including sessions inspired by Youth4Nature ambassadors. Her work is driven by the belief that sustainable forestry is not just about trees but about people, equity, and the future. Through the Millennium Fellowship, she aims to scale her storytelling impact, collaborate with other young leaders, and contribute to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
