Georgia Institute of Technology | Georgia, United States | Advancing SDG 4, SDG 5, SDG 8, SDG 10, SDG 9 & UNAI 3

" I strongly believe that technology should be both innovative and inclusive. My journey in engineering has shown me the power of how mentorship and access can ignite growth, and I aspire to extend those opportunities to others—especially younger students who may not see themselves as naturally represented in STEM. I am thrilled to be a Millennium Fellow, to collaborate with peers who are equally committed and are passionate about causes that create impact that uplifts communities and builds a more equitable future for all. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: STEMpowered Girls
The fellowship project that I will be working on will create a STEM mentorship and education program for girls called “STEMpowered Girls” at Midtown High School in Atlanta, Georgia which currently lacks such a resource. By associating with active members of Georgia Tech’s (GT) Society of Women Engineers (SWE), I will connect a well-resourced tech school like GT with the local school system and its community. High school is a critical time where students start making their future paths. Many young women are discouraged from pursuing STEM, among other things, due to the clear and visible gender gap. This program will provide mentorship, guidance, encouragement, and visible role models, to inspire more girls to choose and persist in STEM fields. I plan to use the considerable experiences I have founding and running a similar organization at my own high school. That organization was very successful in empowering over 200 girls within our community. I will bring that experience to Midtown High School to build a similar thriving, sustainable program. The initiative will use exposure, mentorship, and community support to ensure that the students have resources and support to thrive in STEM fields and ultimately pursue careers in these areas.
