" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the opportunity to turn my ideas into impactful actions collaborate with change makers from around the world and contribute meaningfully toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals that shape a better future for all. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowering through health
My Millennium Fellowship project under S3: Sustaining Safe & Sound Communities focuses on raising health awareness among students and young women. In Pakistan, poor hygiene, limited health education, and taboos surrounding women’s health create serious challenges. Many girls are unaware of basic symptoms, preventive practices, or the importance of early detection. To address this gap, I designed a project that provides simple, accessible, and reliable health information.
The project consisted of four key activities.
The first was a PCOS Awareness Seminar, explaining causes, risk factors, misconceptions, and diagnostic criteria. It helped participants understand early signs and encouraged them to seek timely care.
The second activity was a Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar, highlighting breast self-examination, early detection, and breaking stigma through open discussion.
To reach a larger audience, I set up a Health Awareness Desk, offering one-on-one guidance, pamphlets, and posters on PCOS, breast cancer, hygiene, and nutrition.
Finally, I conducted a 45-minute session at a local girls’ school, teaching young students about hygiene and healthy eating in an interactive, age-friendly way.
