" I'm excited to be a Millennium Fellow because I love connecting with people who want to make a real difference. For me, it’s about taking my passion for healthcare and service and turning it into something bigger than myself. This fellowship feels like the perfect space to learn, grow, and work alongside others who care about creating lasting impact. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Bridging Stem and Social Impact
My project involves connecting STEM students with real-world social issues by providing them with the chance to apply science for the common good. The majority of students think of STEM as being only in textbooks and laboratories, but I want to show them that it can be an excellent tool for social change. We look at how science can address issues such as public health literacy, sustainability, and access to education through workshops, outreach activities, and research collaborations. For instance, we run workshops on the application of chemistry in daily life to clean water, or how biology is applicable to public health. We partner with local schools to introduce students to STEM who otherwise have no hands-on training. The hope is to bridge the gap between scientific literacy and the application to the world, inspiring students to see outside the classroom and use knowledge to make things better. By promoting collaboration and outreach, we hope to cultivate a new generation of problem solvers who can see STEM as a means to assisting others, not solely a profession.
