Millennium Fellowship Project: Voices for Child Rights

Bangladesh faces a persistent struggle to ensure the protection of children’s rights despite having strong legal frameworks such as the Children Act 2013 and the Labour Act 2006. Enforcement gaps, economic hardship, and social stigma have left millions of children vulnerable to exploitation and abuse, particularly in domestic work.
The National Child Labour Survey 2022 reports that out of nearly 40 million children aged 5–17, about 3.53 million are working, with 1.77 million engaged in child labour and over 1 million in hazardous occupations. Among these, child domestic workers (CDWs), of whom nearly 80% are girls, represent one of the most invisible and abused groups.
The Voices for Child Rights project addresses this crisis by creating a youth-led platform for legal research, advocacy, and community engagement. By hosting a symposium through the Department of Law, this initiative will allow students to present papers, debate reforms, and propose evidence-based policy recommendations to strengthen child rights protections in Bangladesh.
