Millennium Fellowship Project: HealthPath Horizons

The US is projected to face a significant shortage of doctors, potentially reaching 86,000 by 2036. One way to solve this problem is to make the resources for becoming a physician more accessible. Many doctors come from affluent backgrounds, which is unsurprising given the high costs of pursuing a medicine. The expenses of college, medical school, and numerous necessities can be prohibitive. Moreover, becoming a doctor is highly demanding and filled with challenges. Not surprisingly, it is almost impossible for low-income students to become doctors. And it’s not because of a lack of drive or interest—there are many, many hard-working people out there with longstanding dreams to save lives by becoming a doctor. The only problem is having the time and resources to overcome these challenges, and access to experienced mentors can make all the difference in achieving success. I co-founded HealthPath Horizons to solve this precise problem. We connect students to the resources they need and arm them with the information they need to continue on their medical journeys through infographics, open-access educational material, presentations, workshops, and more. HealthPath Horizons strives to empower underrepresented and underserved youth populations to feel confident about pursuing their dream of becoming a doctor.

About the Millennium Fellow

He is currently conducting research on neurodegenerative diseases at Harvard Medical School and MGH. There, he is working to understand the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer’s and develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for the disease. Additionally, he is exploring the implementation of artificial intelligence-based technologies, such as large language models, across various domains of the clinical workflow. Outside of research, Aneesh serves as an advocate for legislation that promotes more equitable healthcare and leads initiatives that provide resources for low-income students to enter medicine.
