" I believe that lasting change begins with empathy and is sustained through collaboration. Being a Millennium Fellow excites me because it offers a platform where values like inclusivity, humility, and compassionate leadership are not only encouraged but lived. My journey, from volunteering in elderly care centers to mentoring underprivileged students, has taught me that real impact happens when we listen deeply and act intentionally. I do the work I do because I have seen how opportunity can transform lives, and I am committed to building systems that give people the tools to shape their own futures. The Millennium Fellowship is more than a recognition; it is a call to action. It connects me with like-minded individuals across the globe who are equally driven to build a just and equitable world. I am excited to grow, to share, and to learn from this community, because when we lead with empathy and unite across borders, we can create a ripple effect of change that extends far beyond ourselves. This Fellowship marks a turning point in my journey, and I am ready to take this next step toward deep, sustainable social impact. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: 1Change 4All
1Change 4All is an independent project led by Millennium Fellow Amanuel “Sisko” Koye. The initiative aligns with SDG 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities by focusing on hydroponics, recycling, and urban gardening. The project aims to promote sustainable agricultural practices, raise environmental awareness, and inspire responsible urban living. During the Millennium Fellowship period (August–December 2025), 1Change 4All will run a community campaign engaging HCT students, faculty, and the wider community. The campaign will include awareness workshops, hands-on hydroponic demonstrations, and recycling drives, with a goal of reaching at least 200 participants and fostering long-term commitment to sustainability.
About the Millennium Fellow
My name is Yonatan Melaku, and I'm an electrical engineering student originally from Ethiopia, now based in the UAE. Growing up, I was fascinated by how energy powers everything around us, from small devices to entire cities. That curiosity grew into a passion, especially as I saw the energy challenges faced by both my home country and the region I now live in. My goal is to contribute meaningfully to the energy sector, particularly in sustainable and renewable energy solutions. I am driven by a desire to bridge innovation and accessibility, and I hope to help create a future where clean energy is both reliable and universal. Alongside my studies, I enjoy exploring new technologies, collaborating on projects, and learning from diverse global perspectives. I believe that through persistence, curiosity, and purpose, I can make a lasting impact in the field of energy and engineering.
