" I'm passionate about making mental health support as accessible and refreshing as a cool breeze on a hot Harare day. The Millennium Fellowship excites me because it’s not just about helping people survive. I get to combine my love for tech with human connection to support the United Nations SDGs, while collaborating with like-minded fellows locally and globally. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Mindful Bridges

Mindful Bridges is a community-driven initiative based in Harare, Zimbabwe, dedicated to dismantling the stigma surrounding mental health. We aim to bridge the gap between individuals struggling in silence and the support and resources they need to foster well-being. By creating open conversations, providing accessible educational materials, and forging partnerships with local mental health professionals, we aim to empower our community to take effective steps toward mental wellness.

About the Millennium Fellow

John Diya is a bright and organized third-year computer science student at Harare Institute of Technology who believes technology should nurture personal growth as much as it innovates. Having navigated an enlightening mental health journey in Zimbabwe’s often unforgiving systems, he strives to create solutions that care for minds with the same precision as engineers maintain infrastructure. For John, Plato’s ideals aren't abstract philosophy—they're daily reminders that his community deserves tools for both survival and growth. After graduating, he aspires to work in a professional environment where he can cultivate long-term efforts toward ideals that contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
