Millennium Fellowship Project: Own your Story

“Own Your Story” is a community-based initiative focused on empowering young girls who often complete their education yet lack direction, mentorship, and exposure. The project addresses the cultural pressure that pushes girls toward early marriage instead of personal growth. Through career-planning workshops, scholarship guidance, mentorship circles, and soft skills training, the initiative helps girls build self-awareness, confidence, and clarity about their future. A digital resource bank will further support them with verified opportunities and practical tools. The project aims to create a generation of young women who understand their worth, explore diverse career paths, and pursue independence with confidence.

About the Millennium Fellow

Maryam Shoukat, a third-year Accounting and Finance student at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, is deeply committed to advancing youth empowerment and education equity. As a Millennium Fellow, she leads “Own Your Story”, a project designed to guide young girls in exploring career pathways, accessing scholarships, and cultivating self-confidence. Through mentorship and skill-building workshops, Maryam strives to create an inclusive support network that enables girls to unlock opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
