" One thing I am excited about is gaining problem solving skills to address global problems. I am also interested in deepening my understanding on what it means to be a global leader. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Iris project

The Iris project is an initiative designed to target secondary school girls. It was intended
to educate them about female menstrual health, and enlighten them about STEM
careers they can pursue. This initiative was carried out by organizing two outreaches at two secondary schools in the University of Ibadan . The first outreach, which was organized with help from other Millennium Fellows in my cohort, focused on educating secondary school boys and girls about SDGs, the role they can play in achieving them and what they stand to benefit if achieved. We also emphasized the SDG 5—gender equality, explaining to both boys and girls the importance of gender equality.
The second outreach was carried out in partner with an organization I volunteer with, Working to Advance Science and Technology Education for African Women, University of Ibadan branch(WAAW-UI). We spoke to the students about the involvement of women in the STEM industry, and talked to the girls about pursuing careers in STEM. An experiment on thermodynamics using a balloon was carried out to entertain the students.
