Millennium Fellowship Project: BetterLife

Betterlife is an initiative focussed towards a campaign for reducing the intake of substances (tobacco, alcohol, and other illegal drugs) by Children, primarily targeting School students. We did both secondary research as well as on-ground research at 5 schools in our locality. Our research states that 5-10% of total students are influenced by drugs. These stats are underreported as it is hard to identify the school students addicted to drugs. Growing up in a Government school in Tamil Nadu, I have seen my own classmates getting influenced or slowly addicted to various types of drugs at an early stage itself. The awareness towards the harm of early drug abuse was never taught or emphasised upon in our curriculum or in any of the talks. Students who get addicted to such habits often get misled in their lives ahead, as drugs make them unaware about themselves. Betterlife's vision is to create appropriate awareness amongst students about the harm that drug addiction would have on them, motivate them to build a Drug-free society, guide them to resist peer pressure. We also aim to educate the teachers and suggest them materials which they can use to prevent or resist students from using drugs.
