" Joining the Millennium Fellowship excites me because it turns my ideas into measurable change with peers who push my thinking. I'm eager to learn human-centered project design, facilitation across sectors, and impact evaluation. The program’s focus on UNAI and the SDGs gives my work clear direction while expanding my capacity to anticipate future needs, co-create with communities, and pilot creative solutions in schools and arts spaces. Millennium Fellowship Project: Traco
Traco will be a food waste reduction/management system. University students rely on campus the messes(food halls), with most using a 'Buffet' system. Being students ourselves we realised that there is enormous amount of food wastage that happens on a daily basis in our campus messes. Studies show that, in Indian college food halls, approximately 25-30% of the food goes uneaten. The primary reasons being: - Students generally overestimate their hunger and end up taking food in excess - the Buffet system - Excess food being produced, just to make sure no one goes hungry The halls in our campus don't track or analyse any part of the process, neither consumption nor wastage. There is no system in place that reduces the waste being generated. Everyday waste is generated, the management disposes it and the same amount of waste is there next day. If a proper system is implemented in our halls, we can : - track quantity of meals served, - tracks its consumption(and hence wastage) - and suggests meal servings in future based on the data analysed All of these measures will allow the food halls to massively reduce their food waste.
