Millennium Fellowship Project: Footprints for the Future

The project is about raising awareness about the wildlife around us. This includes nature walks, information sessions, competitions, etc. My campus is a beautiful sanctuary for nature, but it is heartbreaking to see how little students and outsiders are aware of the wildlife contained within it. This lack of awareness leads to incidents that directly or indirectly hurt these innocent animals. I also aim to shed light on how consistent ecological restoration efforts can transform wastelands into beautiful natural treasures. One such example is the Adyar Eco-park in Chennai, close to the IIT Madras campus. Through sustained efforts over the years, the TN government has successfully converted this wasteland into a beautiful ecological park. My goal with this project is to bring this to the attention of people who are willing to make a change in their lives to promote sustainable development and appreciate the wildlife around us.

About the Millennium Fellow

Venkata Sai Tushar Purigindla is an ambitious, young undergraduate student in the Mechanical Engineering Department at one of India's most prestigious institutions, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He was born and raised in Hyderabad, and is currently studying in Chennai, India. Throughout his childhood, he was deeply passionate about nature and has been an avid birdwatcher and wildlife photographer. During his freshman year, he organised nature walks and bird censuses for various organisations to raise awareness about the wildlife found on the IIT Madras campus. His love for nature comes together with his interest in core engineering in the form of biomimicry - innovation inspired by nature. Tushar aspires to work in a place where he can continue to innovate and solve global engineering problems, as well as contribute to the development of the United Nations' Sustainable Goals.
