" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow as I will get the opportunity to meet other ambitious and motivated individuals, and work together with them to achieve successful outcomes to some interesting problems. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Spin-Press: An Open-Source Project for Undergraduates

Spin-Press is an open-source data compression problem co-created by Professor Stefano Angioletti-Uberti and me (Toby Hallett). The scope of the challenge is set out on GitHub: https://github.com/TobyH9/spin-press. Currently, I have invited two undergraduate students at Imperial College London (Sergio Perini and Matthew Antonio) to propose their own solutions. Moving forward, I plan to reach out to more undergraduates to invite them to contribute.
The aim of the project is to help undergraduate students gain research experience for future careers in academia or industry. The current job market is highly competitive; employers often expect students to have research experience before applying, yet few undergraduate degrees offer the opportunity to gain it. This project aims to bridge that gap.

About the Millennium Fellow

Toby Hallett is a student going into his third year of university at Imperial College London, studying Materials Science. Alongside his studies, he is currently researching how to speed up the materials design process by using machine learning. He also enjoys a wide range of sports, especially rugby.
