UNITED NATIONS ACADEMIC IMPACT AND MCN PROUDLY PRESENT DIANZHENG YU, A MILLENNIUM FELLOW FOR THE CLASS OF 2025.
Johns Hopkins University | Maryland, United States | Advancing SDG 3, SDG 3 & UNAI 1

" My drive to bridge science, medicine, and community stems from a belief that equitable healthcare begins with both innovation and empathy. Through the Millennium Fellowship, I hope to strengthen my ability to translate research in personalized medicine and dermatology into initiatives that directly serve communities. Collaborating with peers worldwide will expand my perspective and empower me to make measurable impacts on health equity. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Good Skin Initiative
Working at the Garza Laboratory, a dermatology research lab at Johns Hopkins University, has deepened my understanding of how widespread skin conditions are. Skin conditions are estimated to affect 1.8 billion people at any point in time. In the United States alone, approximately one in four individuals experiences some skin issues. I deeply resonate with the physical and mental suffering they are going through, as I myself used to be one of them. Recognizing the general lack of knowledge about skin care in the local community, I established the Dermatology Collective. Targeting the knowledge gap pertaining to general skin health- and skin-related issues, such as sun damage and dermatitis, Dermatology Collective aims to raise awareness amongst Johns Hopkins University members and the general Baltimore population so that they 1) are alert for signs and symptoms associated with common skin conditions and 2) can make informed decisions to protect their skin. As President, I oversee general meetings in which members discuss current research on dermatology and help disseminate skin care knowledge. We have also secured collaboration with the Youth Education program of the American Academy of Dermatology and established connections with two local after-school programs to teach children about skin health.
