Millennium Fellowship Project: Circular Additive Manufacturing of Polyolefin Waste
This project entails collecting waste that has been disposed and yet cannot decompose and then transform it into small pellets at first which is done by takataka solutions, a company I visited and had discussions with on the viability of this project earlier this year. The polyolefins are then either crashed into powder form or transformed into filaments that can be used in binder jetting or fused filament deposition respectively to produce common consumer products or household products such as serving spoons, mugs, plates among other items. This not only reduces the plastic waste on the environment but also creates a circular economy that is sustainable in that the waste become useful products with no entry or exit of resources in to or from the ecosystem respectively.
