" Millennium Fellowship is a gathering of the best minds and the best characters in the higher learning institutions of the world. Being apart of such a movement is amongst the greatest and best ways to learn and apply skills such as leadership, research, coordination, project management as well as teamwork. It is such a great opportunity to be able to see the world at a different perspective and interact with change makers who will only motivate you to become better. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Vaxiliv Kenya
My project is basically trying to fix the problem of animal suffering from epidemic and vaccine-preventable diseases in the north eastern parts of Kenya as well as the whole country. We shall develop an application that will work as a scheduler and tracker for all animals. The app will work to develop vaccination schedules of all species of animals currently kept by the local area and send alerts to herders/ farmers when the vaccination of animals is due. To further increase the area of reach, the application will be directly localized to Somali for easier access for the pastoral communities that may have problems with English and other formal languages. The app will as well include several different videos and interactive clips which will try and teach the herders on how to handle animals with different clinical manifestations as well as the contact of different veterinarians in the area. An offline mode for the application will also be developed to counter areas with little to no network connection.
About the Millennium Fellow
Jabir is a curious, intelligent, and unique individual. He is a student of Animal and Veterinary Medicine at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, residing in the city of Nairobi, Kenya. He was born in the great northeastern plains of Kenya, where humans and animals live as one—each dependent on the other. From an early age, he was fascinated by animals and their behavior, a passion nurtured by his lifelong exposure to them.
Determined to dedicate his life to understanding animals and safeguarding them, he also seeks to protect the cultural heritage tied to them. This passion has placed him at the forefront of sustainable livestock systems, as he explores pathways to make a meaningful difference for both his community and the animals they depend on.
It is for this reason that he joined the Millennium Fellowship—to advance and champion a safer, more sustainable future for animals and the pastoral communities of the world.
