Millennium Fellowship Project: Social Media as a Health Information Source
My project as stated 'social media as a source of health information among nursing students at Jomo kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology' has greatly impacted how am viewing the use of social media with what nursing students have been taught in classroom. From the results gathered, social media platforms have the biggest impact to the nursing students since they are able to use the information from other researches posted online with other information to get the health information and use it to diagnose themselves, medications administered locally without consulting a professional health practitioner or visiting a health facility. According to the results I found out that majority of the social media platforms are mostly used by the nursing students to gather more health information and also compare with classroom knowledge gained hence this has greatly impacted their health since they are unable to seek help from health practitioners or visit health facilities to get good health services at a fee. This has led to great abuse of some drugs specifically antibiotics hence not recommending anymore someone diagnosing and medicating themselves rather than receiving health services offered at our health facilities. They promised to be great ambassadors of their health and those surrounding them like families and their communities at large.
