" Creating impactful technology has been my dream for as long as I can remember. The Millennium Fellowship gives me a platform to build openly, share my work with the world, and create real change for communities in need and the ability to reach them on a global scale "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Communication is key
Picture this; your dream company is hosting an event. The internship you i've always wanted is open. Moreover, one of the panelists is the hiring manager herself, and her main topic of discussion is exactly how to get hired. You're excited, you dress up, tell all your friends and family you're out for the weekend and you go. When you get there the speaker's lips are moving, everyone is excited , even taking notes. But you can't hear a thing. This situation is confusing, until you understand that over half a billion people live with disabling hearing loss. They too, try to maneuver a world not meant for them, only to be excluded from such spaces. They miss out on the most basic of things involuntarily. You'll rarely find an interpreter. My proposed project is an offline, real time, speech to sign translator, that uses AI to understand context and sign effectively. This tool would ensure that hard-of-hearing individuals are fully included in every conversation and better yet without relying on resources like a stable internet connection. All happening in real time. Just like reading captions in a youtube video.
