" In my life, curiosity flourishes the cat. Exploring new opportunities and contributing to the society in creative and bold ways is something that has always drawn me towards it. I'm not hesitant to work hard, and I want to put up these capabilities at test with this Millennium Fellowship. I would love to brush up my skills of versatility, team collaboration, social responsibility and perseverance through this program. I also aim to contribute positively to the community, as well as to my learning and experience at best by interacting with leading and inspiring mentors and achieving the SDG goals and UNAI principles with my team. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Zariya

We all know the importance of quality education. Many programs and schemes are working for betterment in this sector, but issues persist. For instance, the inefficient ratio of the number of students and the number of teachers assigned to them—one teacher is responsible for a large number of students, making learning difficult for each one of them. Another issue is punctuality and attendance of the teachers, who often do not perform their duties honestly. Also, children are admitted on the basis of their age rather than their academic capabilities, which further makes it difficult for them to cope with the syllabus. So, the children who study in government schools and belong to socially and economically marginalised areas face difficulties in competing with other students who are from a fairly well-off background. So to make these children competent and confident in their academic lives, this project sponsors their coaching and tutoring and promotes their holistic development. Our beneficiaries include the children of rickshaw pullers, house help, daily wage earners, etc. We collaborate with leading learning institutions and find sponsors who can at least support two students in their learning journey. Simultaneously, we provide the students' progress reports to their respective sponsors.

About the Millennium Fellow

Maisha Mir is a witty, responsible, but above all, a hardworking student pursuing her Bachelor's in Geography from Jamia Millia Islamia. She loves to explore every domain or field of work that crosses her path. This makes her life interesting and happening, trying to balance between her academics and her professional life. She has been born and brought up in Delhi , but if you'll ask her for directions in her city, she'll be lost herself as she doesn't really go out apart from work-related expeditions. She's confident and kind, leading her to help communities in ways that might scare many. So, it's fun to be around her but also quite difficult to keep up with her fast-paced life.
