" Passion, creativity, adaptability and flexibility drive my work form. Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship will strengthen these skills and other leadership skills enabling me to make tangible impact on student well-being and a positive difference in student lives in line with the Sustainable Development Goals plus UNAI principles. I am both excited and eager to come up with innovative ways to support learning and provide help where it's needed most. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Thriving Together Initiative
This project is committed to combating food insecurity among university students through sustainable support systems, awareness campaigns, and a compassionate peer network. Targeting underprivileged undergraduates, it has raised awareness, reduced food wastage—especially from the agricultural faculty—and fostered a culture of sharing. Future plans include creating a social media platform to expand outreach and provide greater education on reducing food insecurity.
About the Millennium Fellow
Gladys Nankunda Yapkissa is a smart, determined and empathetic Anesthesia and critical care medicine undergraduate student at Kabale University. She was born in Kampala, Uganda and resides in Kampala but is currently residing in Kabale as she pursues her studies. One of her parents is from Kapchorwa(Eastern Uganda) and the other is from Rukiga(Western Uganda) so she is truly a diverse citizen of her country. Gladys has always been passionate about helping others and providing a comfortable environment for everyone to thrive or at least have the opportunity to do so. The motivation and enthusiasm expressed itself from Gladys' experience in her community, school and continuous dedication to strive for equal opportunities for women in school and later on, workforce. Throughout her high school, she managed to collect donations for the less privileged staff and participate in charity work which she hopes to continue with in the future with a more sustainable plan. Gladys aspires to pursue a profession that allows her to nurture these causes and make her own impact on the development of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
