" The Millennium Fellowship gives me the platform to turn my passion into a reality by empowering my most immediate community with reproductive health knowledge, creating an impact.
Additionally, the fellowship allows me to connect with like minded fellows who again influence my growth. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Enhancing Female Reproductive Health Awareness
The "Enhancing female reproductive health awareness" project aims to empower campus students with knowledge and resources related to female reproductive health. Having recognized that this is a challenge that many campus students face in terms of access to accurate information and support, this initiative aims to bridge the gap and create a safe and inclusive environment for open discussions and learning. This, in my view, would be a game changer not only by improving the female reproductive health status and knowledge among campus students but would also lead to a significant improvement in the students' mental health status. The objectives include raising awareness on female reproductive health even to the males, resource accessibility which include reliable articles and videos, establishing peer support groups where students can share their experiences freely and receive guidance in a confidential and supportive way, advocate for improved reproductive health resources and services on campus example being better access to contraceptives, menstrual products and menstrual health support. Evaluation and feedback of the project from the students will also be very much welcomed. Expected outcomes include increased awareness and understanding of the issues among campus students, improved access to resources and support services related to reproductive health.
About the Millennium Fellow
Eunice Shekaina Kungu is a twenty one year old fourth year Bachelor of Pharmacy student in Kenyatta university. She currently resides in Nairobi but was born in the heart of Kajiado south in a small village among the Maa community. As a 'different person' born there, the culture was different, from early pregnancies, to school dropouts, to early marriages, to the scary reality of women struggling with their mental and reproductive health. This not only fueled her passion to become a 'doctor' but also her passion for community empowerment. Shekaina aspires to bridge gaps in health education and access through informed and sustainable outreach even among her peers who to her surprise are, like girls she grew up with, in need of the same if not more.
