Millennium Fellowship Project: Bakonzo KIU students association SACCO
As a President of the BAKONZO KIU students association, I realized that my fellow students were missing exams because of small fees balances. In statistics, about 100 students in my Association would miss first exams every semester due to low fees balances. I also realized that the money lenders around my university give loans at very high interest rates of 40 percent and above. Students take a thought decision to get that money so as to do exams. I initiated the begging of a savings and credit sacco for students. Where they be able to save and get loans at a very low interest rate. Students take loans at as low as 5 percent per month unlike the money lenders around who give loans at even 59 percent during exam time. I also realized that during the late months of the semester, students starve a lot to a level that ladies start going for sex in exchange for money due to dear to take loans from money lenders. So we give loans during such times to help students copy up. Who pay later on stabilizing. Students create ledgers with us, we encourage them to save an take loans cheaply. .
