" I'm excited to be a Millennium Fellow because I believe change begins with empowered communities, and this platform turns ideas into collaborative action for a better world. In addition, I do this work because I've seen how one voice can spark change but when voices unite, they can transform many communities. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Open Book

Project Open book though still in its planning phase has two main goals: one to raise awareness about the importance of education and two to also raise awareness about the need for gender equality. In achieving this, we plan to go on outreach to primary and secondary schools, marketplaces and villages. Where we will interact and as mentioned before persuade and raise awareness about the importance of education and gender equality. The need for gender equality is centered about the female gender. Around me, as a girl, females especially from poor homes are hardly encouraged from pursuing the same thing that the males pursue because of the upsetting stereotypes about their role in the society(to end up in the kitchen cooking). By going to marketplaces or villages, we plan on having heart to heart conversations with parents thereby persuading then to let their wards go to school be it boy or girl. While doing that, we also plan on giving out school books and pens (basic stationeries) this would be our way of encouragement. By doing this, we hope to encourage eradication of illiteracy. The start of every societal problems is illiteracy leading to ignorance.
