United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 60,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2025 on 7,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 290+ campuses worldwide (less than 5%) were selected to host the 4,500+ Millennium Fellows.

Millennium Fellowship Project: Sustainably Local
Sustainably Local is a University of Kansas student initiative by Kaitlyn Carson and Youngha Rissler through the Millennium Fellowship. The Fellowship is a semester-long social impact and leadership development program, encouraging students to practice and improve their skills through implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These goals call to action by all nations around the world to not only improve current living conditions, but protect the earth for the next generations. but preserve Sustainably Local is developing a project targeting sustainable development goal number twelve, specifically these sub-categories:
12.5 By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse
12.7 Promote public procurement practices that are sustainable, in accordance with national policies and priorities
12.8 By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature
For the fellowship project, we would like to implement a sustainability initiative at the University of Kansas in three phases.
About the Millennium Fellow
Kaitlyn Carson is a driven pre-law student at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS, pursuing degrees in Political Science and Global & International studies. She is passionate about politics, law, and international relations, with an aspiration to practice immigration law or International Humanitarian Law. Although originally from a small town in Kansas, she is motivated by compassion for others and a commitment to improving the international community, striving to make a meaningful difference in the world around her.
