" Being a part of the Millennium Fellowship is such an exciting opportunity for collaboration. Having the support to achieve a project I've dreamed of for years is a privileged. Improving health literacy across rural communities serves as the foundation for a healthy, educated, population capable of advocating for themselves. This project seeks to bridge gaps and strengthen trust between physicians and the communities they serve. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Expanding Health Literacy in Rural Communities

The Community Health Hub is a healthcare information database aimed at increasing health literacy in rural communities. The website has information on topics ranging from pharmaceutical usage, to insurance support. Experts from around the community are able to contribute simple but accurate information on important healthcare topics so rural adults can better navigate their healthcare journey. By providing these communities with more educational access they can feel empowered to advocate for their health.

About the Millennium Fellow

Norah Egge is a senior at the University of Kansas, majoring in Mathematics on the Pre Med track. For Norah medicine has always been about a passion for people and serving something bigger than herself. In 2023 Norah began work as a part time EMT and Firefighter in rural Kansas. This sparked her mission to understand the social determinants of health on a deeper level. It became clear health literacy across rural communities posed a huge threat to public health. Norah is motivated to be a part of change that improve healthcare access in the US, deepens patient provider relationships, and increases access to medical information and informed consent.
