United Nations Academic Impact and MCN are proud to partner on the Millennium Fellowship. This year, 60,000+ young leaders applied to join the Class of 2025 on 7,000+ campuses across 170 nations. 290+ campuses worldwide (less than 5%) were selected to host the 4,500+ Millennium Fellows.

Millennium Fellowship Project: Nzotheka Education Empowerment

Project Name: Nzotheka Education Empowerment
Overview: Nzotheka Education Empowerment is a initiative designed to address the pressing issue of quality education in Malawi by providing economic and social support to primary school students. The project tackles two major obstacles: lack of school fees and a negative mindset towards education, which are exacerbated by systemic and cultural challenges.
Objectives:
1. Economic Support: Provide funding for school fees and essential learning materials to disadvantaged students.
2. Social Support: Implement mentorship programs to foster a positive mindset towards education and promote academic excellence.
Target Population: Primary school students in Malawi who face economic and social barriers to quality education.
Expected Outcome:By supporting students financially and mentoring them, Nzotheka Education Empowerment aims to improve academic performance, increase access to quality education, and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).

About the Millennium Fellow

Angel Galileya is a 21-year-old Malawian young woman pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. As a passionate advocate for youth empowerment, Angel leverages her background in spoken word artistry and writing to inspire positive change. With over eight spoken word pieces and fifty written works showcased on social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, she has established herself as a compelling voice on social issues, including religion, education, family, and politics.
Through her leadership journey, Angel has held various roles, including school prefect, chairperson and secretary of a religious organization, and secretary of the Nutrition and Dietetics Students' Association. These experiences have refined her leadership skills and deepened her commitment to mentoring young minds.
Angel believes that cultivating effective leadership in young people is crucial for driving positive change in communities, nations, and the world. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading self-development books, journaling, and engaging in meaningful conversations. She is eager to continue growing as a leader and collaborating with like-minded individuals who share her passion for empowering the next generation.
