" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the chance to grow as a leader, learn from others, and use my skills to make a positive impact in my community. I do the work I do because I believe even small efforts can bring meaningful change "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness

The first session was conducted online, where I introduced the topic of Antimicrobial Resistance and explained what Antimicrobial Resistance is, how it develops and why it is a growing global health concern. I used a digital poster to guide the discussion. Students asked questions during the session and I clarified common misconceptions about antibiotic use. This online served as a foundation for students to gain basic understanding before our physical meeting.
The second session was conducted physically because it is easier and simple to explain some concepts when everyone is engaged physically. In a physical meeting, I continued with the awareness activity with the same students from our church organization. in this session, I explained antimicrobial resistance in detail using real life examples like antibiotic resistance happening in different hospitals and emphasizing responsible antibiotic use. I emphasized on preventive practices like completing full antibiotic dosage, avoid unnecessary antibiotic use and seeking medical advice before taking medication. students also engaged in a discussion about how their personal actions such as sharing antibiotics or stopping medication early can contribute to resistance. The physical meeting allowed for deeper interaction, active participation and better engagement.
