" Passion needs to be closely backed up with the right skills and tools to effectively drive change and social impact. Being a Millennium Fellow will help and equip me with the right resources and knowledge I need to backup my desire to impact my society in the area of knowledge and access to mental health care. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: YouMatter

YouMatter seeks to educate and enlighten medical students about mental health and help them build the mental resilience needed to weather through the challenges associated with medical school thereby reducing the risk of anxiety, depression and burnout whilst also helping them to be productive in their respective fields. The major goal of this project is to equip medical students with the knowledge of mental health struggles, how to identify destructive mindsets and coping strategies amongst themselves and fellow colleagues and how to replace these strategies with aids that are more constructive and would foster healthy and sane minds required for desired productivity.

About the Millennium Fellow

Oke Joy is a medical student in her penultimate year. Based on personal experiences and keen observation of cultural stereotypes surrounding mental health, she strives to bridge the ignorance gap and is passionate about access to mental health care being advocated for as much as access to physical health care.
