Millennium Fellowship Project: Guiding Futures, Bridging Gaps
Before joining LAU, I deeply struggled with choosing the right major. I came from a private Lebanese school following a traditional system, assuming I was prepared, until I realized the skills and knowledge required in university were totally different due to limited guidance. I started thinking about less privileged students in public schools and rural areas who don’t have access to modern educational resources, and the people I meet in my village who gave up on their dreams because of these systematic gaps in education. Therefore, my project aims to make the “ school to university†transition easier for these communities. LAU students will mentor high school seniors, supporting them with admissions, scholarships, and preparations for university life. Workshops will also be organized to provide them with key skills needed like leadership, communication, and other social skills.
About the Millennium Fellow
Lama Ghanem is an ambitious and passionate Economics student, committed to creating social impact through education, cultural exchange, and community engagement. She studies at the Lebanese American University of Beirut, and completed an Erasmus+ semester in Poland. She has experience in everything basically, including a tour guide, a dental assistant, and an academic tutor ( a bit of everything). She recently joined the international services program as a buddy in LAU and BEIC ( Beirut Erasmus International Club ) for the same reason as this project ( helping incoming and outgoing students to get the most out of their experience, based on her experience). Lama aspires to use these experiences, including this project, and her major for future contributions worldwide.
