" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it gives me the platform to turn ideas into impact, collaborate with like-minded peers, and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in my community. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: The Green Week Initiative
My project is a two-phase initiative aimed at promoting environmental awareness, climate action, and data-driven policy research in Africa.
In Phase 1 Green Week Initiative, we organized a week-long program on campus to engage students in sustainability and climate action. On Day 1, volunteers and I planted trees around the campus to reduce the effects of climate change. Day 2 involved students making eco-friendly pledges to adopt sustainable practices. On Day 3, I conducted a physical session educating over 500 students on turning waste, especially plastic and carbon-based materials, into income-generating products, encouraging recycling and entrepreneurship. On Day 4, I shared information via WhatsApp about green transport, its importance, and ways to adopt eco-friendly commuting. Day 5 was an evaluation day where I collated activities and reviewed the outcomes.
Phase 2 Africa Policy Data Pact (APDP) will officially launch on December 20th, 2025. This student-led initiative will analyze environmental and economic data from sources like the World Bank, IMF, and NBS to address climate-related and economic challenges in Nigeria and Africa. It aims to produce actionable policy recommendations while building students’ skills in research, data interpretation, and advocacy.
Impact:
Phase 1 successfully engaged students in hands-on climate action, reaching hundreds of participants and promoting sustainability, entrepreneurship, and environmental responsibility. Phase 2 is poised to bring together youth across Africa to analyze data and generate insights that will inform climate and economic policies once the project launches.
