Millennium Fellowship Project: MindLyfe MUK College Connect
MindLyfe MUK College Connect is a student led mental health campaign by MindLyfe Makerere Chapter aimed at raising mental health awareness, and advocacy in purposeful living. We engage in mental health talks, counselling students in areas of health relationships and living health lifestyle. Our approach emphasizes sessions in living safely through practicing safe sex, abstaining and regular testing from the University Hospital where its free. As part of our activities, we also encourage students to desist from drug usage and abuse as well as unproductive usage of social media. This has impacted the student community where we have witnessed an increased number of students regularly testing for HIV and drinking responsibly, for the party goers. While the university has a counseling center and other helpful resources, many students are either ignorant of their existence or are simply too adamant to take advantage of these. This project narrows the gap between the Makerere University Counselling Center and general student population, basing on the ideals and principles of community psychology . We work have formed partnerships with other stakeholders such as the student leadership, church communities particularly Catholic and Anglican Communities that help us with the publicity of our advocacy and intervention.
