" I constantly wonder what it takes to make the next big move. There’s a fire burning deep within me, a spark that refuses to fade. I believe the Millennium Fellowship will be the conduit for this energy, empowering me to harness it fully and channel it into creating a lasting impact. The skills I will gain from this fellowship will help me spread the sustainable revolution. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: ECO-COPS
ECO-COPS is a youth-led movement dedicated to nurturing an inner sense of environmental responsibility among students and communities. Rooted in the belief that true sustainability begins from within, the project works to cultivate a generation that chooses to protect the environment out of understanding and conviction rather than obligation.
Through sensitisation, ECO-COPS equips students and teachers with a practical understanding of environmental stewardship, responsible consumption, proper waste management, and sustainable living. The goal is to spark genuine awareness and nurture eco-conscious habits that feel natural rather than imposed.
Through advocacy, the project empowers young people to champion environmental responsibility within their schools, homes, and communities. ECO-COPS encourages students to lead conversations, challenge harmful norms, and inspire others to adopt environmentally friendly practices.
Through policy, the project collaborates with school administrations and local stakeholders to introduce and reinforce sustainability policies, including anti-plastic measures, waste management systems, and greener institutional cultures. These policies secure long-term behavioural change and provide structure for continued progress.
About the Millennium Fellow
Asasira Arthur is a curious and enthusiastic young man on a mission to make a positive impact in the world around him. He was born and raised in Uganda, a developing country in Sub-Saharan Africa, which, if you look beyond its flaws, is adorned with nature so beautiful and rich, and its people so vibrant and lively. The country is grappling with unprecedented climate change due to prolonged, unsustainable living. This has damaged its beautiful nature, leaving its glow ever-fading away.
Arthur believes that it is not too late to make lasting change. He believes that the change should come from within and flourish outward. He envisions a sustainable community where the will to conserve the environment grows from within. He dreams of a world where the discomfort of sustainable practices becomes not only comfortable but also pleasurable.
