Millennium Fellowship Project: MindCare – Youth-Led Mental Health Empowerment Initiative
MindCare is a youth-led movement focused on improving mental health literacy among Kenyan youth. The project uses storytelling, simplified educational materials, community engagement, and peer-led dialogues to spread awareness and encourage open conversations around mental well-being.
The target audience includes high school students, university students, youth groups, and community-based organizations.
During the project, 12 workshops were conducted, directly engaging over 600 youths. A total of 1,200 educational guides were distributed, and more than 15,000 people were reached through online platforms. The project also established partnerships with six schools.
Qualitatively, students reported increased confidence in discussing emotional challenges, while teachers observed greater openness in classroom discussions. Youth leaders expressed interest in continued collaboration for long-term programming, and participants demonstrated improved understanding of mental well-being and coping skills.
