Minerva University | San Francisco, United States | Advancing SDG 4, SDG 10 & UNAI 9

" I believe education is the key to unlocking opportunities, and I want to ensure no child’s potential is limited by where they were born. Education changed my life, and I want to pass that forward. The Millennium Fellowship will help me grow as a leader, connect with change makers worldwide, and strengthen UniBridge so it can bring meaningful educational opportunities to children who might otherwise be left behind. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: UniPuentes: Education Bridges for Underserved Children
UniPuentes is an education-focused initiative supporting elementary school students in underserved communities in Buenos Aires through weekly STEM and English learning activities. The project aligns with SDG 4 by addressing gaps in early education quality and by supporting students who face structural barriers to learning. Through activity-based workshops designed in collaboration with a local NGO (Huellas), the project offers foundational learning opportunities, builds confidence, and exposes students to subjects they rarely receive individualized attention. UniPuentes seeks to make education more accessible while promoting long-term academic curiosity and motivation.
About the Millennium Fellow
Karla Guio Cortes is a passionate undergraduate student dedicated to expanding access to quality education in underserved communities. Born and raised in Colombia, Karla was deeply influenced by her mother’s work as a rural public school teacher, witnessing firsthand the challenges students face when resources are limited. In high school, she founded Edu-Heroes, a volunteer initiative where students taught STEM and English in rural elementary schools, alleviating the burden on overworked teachers. Now pursuing her studies abroad, Karla is launching UniBridge in Argentina to connect university students with young learners in underfunded schools. She aspires to continue developing sustainable, student-led projects that inspire children to dream beyond their circumstances and contribute toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
